Wesley Palms Service Project - Saturday Dec 10, 2011 14 youths and 6 adults participated in the Wesley Palms Cleanup Service Project on Saturday, December 10, 2011. We raked and swept the leaves from the gutters alongside the driveways at Wesley Palms Retirement Facility. We started at 9 and finished just before noon. Once again the Wesley Palms staff treated us to gourmet cookies and punch and the troop provided donuts. Thank you to all those who participated. You earned four service hours. We're Still Growing! BSA Training - Getting Started If you are a driver, a helper, or a leader, you must have an up-to-date Youth Protection Training. certificate. The online YPT course takes 30 minutes to complete. To begin, click HERE. Click Create an account. Enter a user name and click Check User Name Availability. If the user name is available, click Next or enter a different user name. Type your BSA member number or click I am new and don't know my member ID and click Next. Complete the profile information screen and click Create User. Select your security questions, enter the answers, and click OK. To complete account activation, click the link in the e-mail you will receive shortly and enter your username and password. To take the YPT course, log on to MyScouting.org, and from the menu on the left, click E-Learning. From the General tab, scroll down to Youth Protection Training and click Take Course. Upon completion, print the certificate for your local council. When you receive your BSA member ID number, log back into MyScouting.org, click on My Profile, and add your BSA number. Leaders - Plan To Attend the Monthly Boy Scout Roundtables There is much to learn at the Monthly Torrey Pines District Boy Scout Roundtable. Boy Scout Roundtables provide valuable information and training for Scoutmasters, Assistant Scoutmaster, and Committee Chairs. Torrey Pines District Roundtables are held on the 2nd Thursday of each month at the LDS Chapel, 2880 Governor Drive, San Diego, CA 92122 from 7-8:30 PM. For the name of a merit badge Counselor near you, click Counselor List or ask Mr. Sisk. Merit Badge Book. You can purchase merit badge books at the Scout Shop for about $5. The troop also has a library of merit badge books. To check out a merit badge book, see the Troop Librarian. If you lose the merit badge book, you must replace it with a new one. Merit Badge Worksheet. You can download the merit badge worksheets for each merit badge. Click HERE to begin. Blue Card. Ask Scoutmaster Mike for a blue card at the next troop meeting. Complete the Merit Badge Worksheet and call the merit badge Counselor for an appointment. When you have completed the merit badge, the merit badge counselor will sign your blue card. Give the signed blue card to Mr. Sisk and return the merit badge book to the Troop Librarian. You will receive your merit badge at the next troop meeting, and you will receive a pocket card and recognition at the next Board of Review. Geoscouting - Our Next Adventure! The BSA has incorporated Geocaching into the Boy Scout outdoor adventure program. Geocaching is a modified treasure hunt using GPS coordinates to locate a prize or "cache." Geocaches are hidden all over San Diego, very close to where we live, and there are thousands of Geocaches hidden all over the world. Finding Geocaches often involves scenic hikes and fun puzzles that you must solve to find the "treasure." There are hundreds of thousands of Geocachers in over 222 countries.
